Most Repairs Fail Because They Miss the Real Problem

North Idaho is harder on roofs than most places. Wind pulls shingles loose. Hail bruises and cracks granule surfaces in ways that don't show up until months later. Freeze-thaw cycles work ice into any gap that exists. And when ice dams form along eaves in a cold January, water backs up under shingles and finds the path of least resistance — usually into your attic or down a wall.

Flashing failures are the other common culprit. The metal flashing around chimneys, skylights, and vent pipes is what keeps water from running behind and under the roofing. When it lifts, separates, or was installed wrong the first time, you get a slow leak that can go undetected for a long time. By the time you see a stain on the ceiling, water has often been sitting in the structure for a while.

Cheap patches fail because they treat the symptom and not the source. A tube of caulk over lifted flashing doesn't fix lifted flashing. We diagnose before we cut. That means getting on the roof, finding the actual entry point, and determining whether a targeted repair makes sense or whether you're looking at a bigger underlying issue. If it's the latter, we'll tell you that directly. We're not going to sell you a repair that's going to fail in six months.
